Case 1936 Model SC Farm Tractor |
|
|
 |
|
|
|
This Tractor was used in the 1930s and 40s. Iron wheeled trac-
tors were preferred in areas with a lot of "new ground" having
been recently cleared and therefore containing numerous roots
and stumps hazardous to rubber tires. Tractors could be
ordered with either rubber or metal wheels.
Tractors such as this operated well enough on soft ground, but
when placed on pavement would "just about shake you off of"
the tractor. They were hard on roadways as well, and so
many rural roads and bridges bore signs saying "tractors with
lugs prohibited."
In this period of time, most farms were one tractor operations.
This piece of machinery was required to perform all the opera-
tions of the year, from cultivation to harvest, using different
implements and attachments.
Donated to the Dave L Pearce Foundation in Memory of the
late Bud Lewis of Oak Grove, by his family. The tractor had
set under a tree in a pasture for some 40 years and the engine
block was filled with hickory nuts. It was restored to operat-
ing condition by friends of the Dave Pearce Foundation. |
